I
John 1:8-20
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him
out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

1 John 2:1
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody
does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the
Righteous One.

I Samuel 7:6
When they had assembled at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the
LORD. On that day they fasted and there they confessed, "We have sinned against
the LORD." And Samuel was leader of Israel at Mizpah.

Daniel 9:4-6
I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: "O Lord, the great and awesome
God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands,
we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have
turned away from your commands and laws. We have not listened to your servants
the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers,
and to all the people of the land.

Daniel 9:17-23
"Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake,
O Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, O God, and hear;
open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do
not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.
O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God,
do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name." While I
was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and
making my request to the LORD my God for his holy hill-- while I was still in
prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift
flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. He instructed me and said to me,
"Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as
you began to pray, an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you
are highly esteemed.

Ezra 10:1
While Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself down before
the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites--men, women and children--gathered
around him. They too wept bitterly.

Matthew 3:1-6
In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea and saying,
"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." This is he who was spoken
of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, `Prepare
the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'" John's clothes were
made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was
locusts and wild honey. People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and
the whole region of the Jordan. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him
in the Jordan River.

Nehemiah 1:4-7
When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted
and prayed before the God of heaven. Then I said: "O LORD, God of heaven,
the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love
him and obey his commands, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear
the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants,
the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my
father's house, have committed against you. We have acted very wickedly toward
you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.

Acts 19:18-20
Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds. A number
who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly.
When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand
drachmas. In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.

Psalm 32:1-5
Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed
is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is
no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day
long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as
in the heat of summer. Selah Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover
up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"--
and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

James 5:13-26
Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs
of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to
pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer
offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If
he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other
and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man
is powerful and effective.

Psalm 139:23 & 24
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See
if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Philippians 2:9-21
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above
every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on
earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father. |
