Sarah Rust wrote a poem on the topic of Rest and read it at the gatherings. Here
is the poem.
I am strong
I am powerful
I am self-sufficient Ü
I AM? No. I am not.
My body yearns, my limbs ache,
My temperament is swayed I can function I have no needs
I am defenseless against its power I submit and it overtakes me
The visions swim through my senses
The colors flood my mindÌs eye and
untold stories unfold, convincing me of their reality
Inspiration is born
Creation is born
Life is born
Angelie also co-wrote a song called "Holy Rest" with Cory Carlson, and
Cory sang this song on Sunday night. Here are the lyrics.
The rhythm of rest, it goes back to Creation
God ceased from his work to enjoy what heÌd made
This holy example he gave us to follow
A parent who knows that we need time to play
Both Egypt and ego have made slaves of Adam
Image-bearers needing release from our chains
Why strive alone to earn fleeting approval
So tired from refusing what heÌs already gained
Resting in you
Worshipping you
Believing you are all sufficient
Trusting the manna you give for each day
But longing for that endless day
Of wholly holy, holy rest Of wholly holy, holy rest
Entrapped by the lie that weÌre just what we do
Keeps us from believing who we are in You
You know my heart and all of its creases
Show me my part and the place where I cease to strive
Resting in you
Worshipping you
Believing you are all sufficient
Trusting the manna you give for each day
But longing for that endless day
Of wholly holy, holy rest
Of wholly holy, holy rest
Of wholly holy, holy rest
Of wholly holy, holy rest |
