Who We Are and How We Want to Be in the World
For some time, we've recognized that fewer and fewer people are attending the current expression of that Gathering, and we've approached that decline with curiosity. We've experimented with different times and content. But, overall, we've continued with our Gatherings as they've been for the past 19 years.
We believe the time has come to be open to more creative solutions. In order to make space and offer freedom for us as a community to be inventive as we reimagine our all-community get together/gathering, the Gatherings staff, Ben Johnson, Doug Pagitt, Colleen Olson, and Thom Olson, have released their positions. This will allow them (and the rest of us) to participate fully in this process without anyone's professional life feeling at risk. Their roles related to the Gatherings will end at the end of October. While Doug is releasing the part of his role related to Gatherings, he will continue in his role as Curator of Community Life. The Finance and Admin team is working on a severance package for the Gatherings staff.
Many of you have asked how you can express appreciation to Ben, Colleen, Doug, and Thom. Jamie Bradley, Mimi Schirber, and Cecka Parks are helping to organize that expression. You can be in touch with them and look forward to hearing from them in regards to that.
While this is a foundational shift in many ways that could feel destabilizing, we are a solid community and are committed to reimagining this particular part of our life together. We will be having regular conversations of what's next intentionally and in earnest in weekly meetings.
Here's the Gatherings/Meeting schedule through the end of the year. We will continue to meet at 5PM unless otherwise communicated.
